This year the highly popular festival, Dancing at the Crossroads, is being renamed Ceol at the Crossroads. The festival will take place in Castlebar on Sunday June 5.
There has been huge interest from local bands and individual talent who will be putting on a showcase of music from original songs to rap and more on the day.
As part of the festival, Linenhall Street and Tucker Street will be closed off from 12 noon until midnight. Music Generation Mayo’s teen bands will start the live music at 4pm.
After that local musicians including Aidan Bolger, Julianne Hennelly, Dean Cleary, and Thomas Langan will be sharing the stage for '1 stage, 3 acts'. Everyday Solution, the five piece pop act, will be producing professional noise amateur style. Fionn Costello will be making his debut appearance in Castlebar with his full band, Uppbeat.
The maestros of acoustic rock 'n' roll, rhythm and blues, and reggae and soul, Ryo & Damo, will be there along with The Dividing Range, a three piece band with a range from folk to indie rock. The Castlebar based Selfie Sticks will follow and well known Jam Shugar will finish the night playing all your favourite rocking anthems from sixties classics to modern favourites.
The best part is there is no need to worry about the rain as there will be a specially constructed 'stretch tent’ covering the stage and front of stage area.
The 'Ukulele Train' arrives in Castlebar on Saturday June 4, at 3.35pm and will head straight for Johnny McHales to play a few tunes. From there it leaves for Mick Byrnes to arrive at 5.30pm. That night the formal ukulele sessions take place in three venues: Mulroy’s, The Irish House, and Mick Byrnes, all starting at 10.30pm.
The following morning there will be workshops in Lough Lannagh Holiday Village. They will take place at 11am and the fee is just €10 or €5 for school going students. Places are limited so book now at (094 ) 9024845.
Later on Sunday, the ukulele bus will head for Johnny McHales at 5pm and there will be an all-inclusive session there.
