Leading forecourt convenience retailer, Maxol, has announced the creation of 50 jobs in Mayo due to the restoration of Maxol Newport Road, Westport, and the opening of a new venture at Duffy’s Garage in Castlebar, both of which represent a combined investment in excess of €2 million.
Independent dealer Duffy’s in Castlebar is currently undergoing the conversion of its adjoining former car showroom, and the official opening of the new forecourt store and delicatessen is scheduled for today, May 27. The investment at Duffy’s has led to the creation of an additional 20 jobs in the areas of retail supervisors, shop sales assistants and deli sales positions. Castlebar has also been chosen by Maxol to feature the company’s new Moreish food range and will also offer the latest café by Insomnia Coffee Company.
Maxol, Newport Road, Westport, is steeped in history. An almshouse over a century ago, it was also the location of the former family home of local Patricia Gibbons, whose parents built the original service station 25 years ago after starting out with simple pump facilities outside their home. Today, the outlet is already successful with a busy Maxol Mace store but is being extended in order to bring the convenience offering to a new level. An impressive food court is being introduced with seating for 60 people, offering the company’s Moreish food range and leading Irish brands including Bewley’s Barista Bar. The redevelopment of Maxol Newport Road, Westport, is leading to the creation of 30 jobs and the new-look site will open in June.
