Time to get in shape for Gael Force

Gael Force 2008, the largest multi-discipline adventure event in the country will take place in Westport this month on August 23 and 24 and is open to all levels of competitor.

Last year nearly 400 people took part in one of the most popular endurance events in the country combining biking, mountain running, trekking and kayaking over 65 kilometres of the most stunning scenery the west coast of Ireland has to offer. Thousands of euros were raised for various Irish charities and this year’s charity partner is Amnesty International.

Starting from an amazing white sand beach in County Galway on August 23, the Gael Force Six race will test competitors to run, bike, kayak and climb their way over rugged Galway and Mayo terrain to finish at glorious Westport House.

For those up for a bigger challenge take part in Gael Force 12 which involves completing in the race Saturday and again on Sunday. The Sunday event is a competition for pairs, which includes mountaineering, navigation and more challenging off-road biking and kayaking.

The whole event is wrapped up with a giant party (on both nights ) and prize money is offered to the winners in each of the races and there will also be many spot prizes for challengers. From more details or to enter, contact Siobhan on 098 28324/28316 or check out www.gaelforcewest.ie
