Sudden deaths in Mayo being investigated

Three sudden deaths that occurred in Mayo in the last week are currently under investigation. The three deaths happened in Ballina, Swinford, and Westport. On Sunday afternoon last, May 8, a fatal traffic collision took place at Ballinahaglish on the N26 Ballina to Foxford road where a male motorcyclist lost his life following a collision with a van at 3.45pm. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to Mayo University Hospital where a post-mortem was carried out. A man was arrested by gardai following the incident and questioned in Ballina Garda Station before being released without charge on Monday, with a file being prepared for the DPP.

The HSE is investigating the death of a 50-year-old resident in Áras Attracta Care Centre in Swinford in the centre on Sunday night, May 8, after she got into difficulty and could be revived by the staff in the centre. The final sudden death occurred in Westport Garda Station where a man who was being brought to the station took suddenly ill shortly before 11am on Monday. Attempts to save the man's life at the scene were unsuccessful and a investigation into the death was launched by The Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission (GSOC ) into his death.
