José González serves up a bank holiday Sunday treat

A rare treat for music fans takes place in the Royal Theatre Pavilion in Castlebar this weekend. José González, Swedish indie folk singer-songwriter, is playing in the Mayo venue on Sunday night next, August 3. José González burst into the mainstream when the song “Heartbeats” was featured on the hugely successful TV advertising campaign for Sony Bravia televisions.

His debut album Veneer went on to amass double platinum sales in Ireland and his follow-up album In Our Nature has been unanimously praised by the press worldwide. Relying simply on his own masterfully eloquent classical guitar and a voice that marries mature assuredness with poignant delicacy, José has been creating his inimitable sonic world since the late 90s. His songs are so timeless - you feel like they’ve always been around - yet there’s a clean freshness to José’s music that makes repeated listening an endlessly revivifying delight, an example of which is his wonderfully melodic version of the Massive Attack track Teardrop In a world of musical clones, the Argentinian Swede is, indeed, a thrillingly original new talent. Tickets for the show cost €33.60 and are on sale from the Royal Theatre and online from www.royaltheatre.ie and the show gets under way at 8pm.
