The Uniphar Cross Atlantic Cycle, led by former Ireland International and Lions rugby player Paul Wallace, takes place from September 4 to 8 this year.
The event will see hundreds of supporters and international rugby legends like former France international Tomas Castaignède and Englishman Mike Tindall cycle along the Wild Atlantic Way from Dingle to Westport in aid of the cancer charity, Friends of Cross, which supports the cancer research programme at Trinity College Dublin.
The funds raised from the Cross Atlantic Cycle will be invested in the purchase of state of the art laboratory equipment to support research projects targeting scientific advances in the prevention and treatment of cancer.
According to Castlebar man Ger Rabbette, CEO at Uniphar Group: “Uniphar is delighted to be title sponsor of the Cross Atlantic Cycle this year. Our goal is to raise €100,000 for Cross. The work and research that goes on at the Trinity Translational Medicine Institute is so important to the development of new treatments for a range of cancers.
“Having completed the cycle last year, I can honestly say that it was a powerful experience. The professionalism and dedication of the team is truly inspirational. We are delighted to be able to give something back both as individuals and as a company.”
The first stage this year, around the Dingle Peninsula, has a very special significance. It will be called 'Janey’s Jaunt' in memory and honour of Jane O’Hare, who sadly died from cancer last December. Jane touched the lives of so many people, including her many special friends connected with Friends of Cross. Her husband Brendan and sons Benjamin and Michael will participate in the cycle.
The entry fee for the event costs €340 per stage or €1,600 for the full tour, which includes accommodation, meals, return transfers, a cycling kit, a Uniphar goodie bag, and a discount voucher from Cycle Super Star.
