Mayo Day celebrations to be broadcast live

A special live broadcast to celebrate Mayo Day will go out on IRISH TV on Saturday April 30 next as part of a weekend long convention celebrating all things Mayo. The Mayo Association World Convention hosted by the Dublin Mayo Association in partnership with Mayo County Council takes place over the weekend of Friday April 29 to Sunday May 1 in the Broadhaven Bay Hotel in Belmullet.

Mayo natives from all over the world are expected to descend on their home county for the event with 300 guests lined up for the gala dinner on Sunday. Following the dinner IRISH TV will broadcast a one-hour live show to celebrate Mayo Day which will include live interviews, entertainment, and special features.

With 'Mayo – the connected county’ as this year’s theme the convention is expected to provide a top networking opportunity for attendees. According to Mayo County Council CEO Peter Hynes, Mayo Day, which falls on May 1, is now the flagship event for the county. The annual Mayo Association conventions running since 1990 have developed a loyal following over the years and 2016 marks the second year in a row for IRISH TV to televise proceedings.

Irish TV CEO Pierce O’Reilly said the home-grown Mayo global channel is delighted to be associated again with the event following a hugely successful broadcast last year. “Mayo people right around the world have a deep love for their home county and the Mayo Dublin Association and Mayo County Council are to be congratulated for the work they do in keeping the connections alive. This is a wonderful event for IRISH TV to showcase across its global television platforms, as over the generations so many Mayo people have put down roots abroad and it is important to always keep the diaspora to the fore and to open continuing opportunities to forge new connections.” For further details log on to www.mayoassociationdublin.com
