Two gorgeous top family shows and a pair of family workshops take place at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar in April. Monkeyshine Theatre presents The Magic Bookshop on Saturday April 16 with performances at 11am, 12.15pm, 1.45pm and 3pm. Peter and John do their very best to make sure every book gets a new life and that none of the magic is lost. Step inside this unusual shop, swap a book and maybe even take a little of the magic home with you. Audiences are invited to bring gently used books to swap. Previous Monkeyshine productions have been described as “magical”, “delightful” and “a treat for all ages”. The show is suitable for five-year-olds and their families, with a duration 30 minutes.
In conjunction with The Magic Bookshop, the Linenhall presents two one-hour Family Book Art Workshops for children aged five years and up with artist and art teacher Paula Henihan, on Saturday April 16 from 10.45am to 11.45am and 1.30pm to 2.30pm. Blow the dust from an old hardback book and transform it into a visual story that is literally jumping off the page. Using paper, card, found materials and imagery participants will create a sculptural collage from a book.
This is a family workshop in which a parent or guardian takes part too. It is a great opportunity to spend some creative time together. The cost per participant for the workshop is €7. Booking is essential. Booking and further information from the Linenhall. Log on to www.thelinenhall.com for more information.
