Kathleen Lynn: Mayo 1916 hero celebrated in county-wide exhibition

Mayo Arts Collaborative presents an exciting visual art project, 'Kathleen Lynn: Insider on the Outside', in five arts venues around Mayo until the end of April.

The show celebrates the life and work of Mayo-born doctor, suffragette, and political activist Kathleen Lynn, who was a member of the Irish Citizen Army and its chief medical officer during the 1916 Rising. Lynn subsequently went on to establish St Ultan's Hospital for Infants in Dublin in 1919.

The show, curated by Catherine Marshall, features work by 13 contemporary artists, Michelle Browne, Gary Coyle, Patrick Graham, Mary Kelly, Joanna Hopkins, Deirdre O’Mahoney, Margo McNulty, Janet Mullarney, Seamus Nolan, Conor O’Grady, Will O’Kane, Geraldine O’Reilly, and Dermot Seymour.

The participating venues are: Áras Inis Gluaire (Belmullet ), Ballina Arts Centre (Ballina ), Ballinglen Arts Foundation (Ballycastle ), Custom House Studios and Gallery (Westport ), and the Linenhall Arts Centre (Castlebar ).
