Mayo face must win game in Armagh

Mayo make the trip to the Athletic Grounds in Armagh today to take on the Orchard County in what is a must win game for JP Coen’s men. After winning three out of three in their opening games in the league this year, Mayo slipped into third place in the table and out of the placings for a spot in the league final and a crack at promotion to Division 2A for next year after their disappointing loss to Wicklow last weekend in Castlebar.

Coen has made a number of changes to the starting 15 from last weekends outing with Cathal Freeman coming back into the starting 15 in the number seven shirt, with Noel Casey also coming into the side in the other wing back slot and John Cotter partnering Austin Lyons in the middle of the field.

Mayo, Down and Armagh are all tied on six points each at the moment with the Mourne county men top of the table of scoring difference. A win for Mayo will see them leap frog Armagh in the table and put them into the final which is pencilled in for next Saturday.

Mayo v Armagh: Donal O’Brien; Brian Hunt, Patrick Connell, Eoghan Collins; Noel Casey, Gerard McManus, Cathal Freeman; Austin Lyons, John Cotter; Kieran McDermott, Ciaran Charlton, Gary Nolan; Shane Boland, Kenny Feeney, Sean Regan.
