A selection convention held on Saturday evening saw Martin McLoughlin selected as Fianna Fáil’s choice to replace the newly elected TD, Deputy Lisa Chambers on Mayo County Council.
McLoughlin who was a key player in Dep Lisa Chambers election team in last months general election and he led off the challenge of David Gallagher from Castlebar and Marty O’Hora from Kiltimagh to win the co-option battle.
A special meeting of Mayo County Council will be held on Monday, March 14 for the ratification to approved by a full meeting of the council.
In other political news this weekend, Dr Keith Swanick announced that he would be contesting the upcoming Seanad Éireann elections for the Fianna Fáil party on the Cultural and Educational panel. Dr Swanick is a Belmullet based GP and he previously contested the Seanad bye election in 2015.
