Inspiring choral event for Knock Basilica

More than 200 voices are expected to join together in song at a free choral concert in the magnificently restored Knock Basilica in Co Mayo next Saturday, March 12.

The free concert has been organised to celebrate the Jubilee of Mercy, with choirs from throughout Mayo and Ireland travelling to take part. This inspiring and powerful event is being coordinated by Úna Nolan, director of sacred music at Knock Shrine, and Deirdre Ní Chinnéide, well-known spiritual music and retreat facilitator.

Ms Nolan has invited everyone throughout the region to attend, and there is no need to have any previous experience of choral singing to join in on the night. “This looks set to be a beautiful and moving concert in the fully refurbished Basilica at Knock,” Ms Nolan said. “This event will be the first choral performance set against the spectacular backdrop of the new Apparition mosaic, which was unveiled last Sunday [February 28].

“We expect to have as many as 200 voices joining together in a wonderful praise concert and it will be something very special. What will be really unique is that the choirs will be seated throughout the Basilica, so that audience members will be surrounded by the music and voices of all of the participating choirs.”

Songs of Praise starts at 7.30pm in Knock Basilica on Saturday March 12. For further information call (094 ) 9388100 or visit www.knockshrine.ie/mercy
