Mayo students pick up DCU scholarships

Five Mayo students have been presented with €1,000 academic scholarships to study at Dublin City University. The scholarships were awarded to the following students in recognition of them achieving 550 points or more in the Leaving Certificate.

Katie Currid from Westport, and a former pupil of Yeats College, was among the recipients. Katie is now studying for a BA in global business with Spanish at DCU. Christopher Sheeran of Pullathomas is studying for a BA in global business and is a former pupil of Our Lady’s Secondary School, Belmullet. Críostíona Ní Laimhín, a former pupil of St Joseph’s Secondary School, Foxford, is a first year education student at the DCU Institute of Education. Cian Ruane from Breaffy and a former pupil of St Gerald’s College, Castlebar, is a first year computational problem solving and software development student at DCU. Aoife Burke from Callow, Foxford, and a former pupil of St Joseph’s Secondary School, Foxford, is now a first year biotechnology student at DCU.

Over €100,000 worth of scholarships were presented to fresher students at DCU. Awardees were joined at a special presentation ceremony at the Helix by their parents and former school principals. Each student received a commemorative certificate and the school principals were presented with a plaque to display in the school marking the significant achievement of their past pupil.The DCU Academic Scholarship Awards were presented to students from throughout Ireland on achieving 550 CAO points or more at Leaving Certificate or equivalent.
