Castlebar based band, Jam Shugar, will release their debut single on Friday March 11 in Garbo's music venue.
Jam Shugar formed early in 2014 when musician Aidan Bolger met talented singer Julianne Hennelly at an open mic session in Castlebar. The duo have been booking gigs and performing as a two piece acoustic set, and occasionally collaborating with other local musicians. Initially, the duo spent time touring and performing in venues around the country, until in 2015 when they decided to focus on playing more local gigs.
It was also around this time that they began hosting original music nights in Garbo's, the music venue that provides a much needed platform for local musicians to present new and original music. With the success of the original music nights and the positive reactions, song writer Aidan Bolger began making home recordings and experimenting with many styles and genres, often adding humour and comedy to his lyrics.
Bolger was one of the recipients of the Music Recording Assistance Award from Mayo County Council in October 2015, and this has led to time working in a professional studio. The debut single from Jam Shugar is titled The Paddy's Day Story and is a comic perspective on St Patrick's story. It is a country/folk song with melodic verses and a hearty, lively, chorus. It will be available to download on iTunes from Friday March 11.
Following the release, Jam Shugar will be performing in venues around Mayo. Upcoming gigs include: Friday March 11 in Garbo's, Castlebar; Saturday March 12 in Seven Arches Bar, Newport; Wednesday March 16 in Cobweb, Castlebar; Thursday March 17 in T Flynn's, Castlebar; and Friday March 18 in Mulroy's, Castlebar.
