Cork singer/songwriter and pianist, Clare O’Riordan, will enthral listeners with a live performance upstairs in Walsh’s (Blousers ) Bar Westport on February 26.
With her dark, soulful, voice, Clare will sing superbly crafted originals from her debut album Shelter. Clare also promises to share some new songs from her upcoming EP, which she is currently recording in Massachusetts, USA.
Clare is a soul singer with diverse eclectic influences. Her music is a mixture of piano based balladry, folk, light funk, and smooth jazz. This broad spectrum of styles is highly characteristic of Clare’s approach to songwriting - to write music that defies definition and boundaries, but appeals to the universal.
In Shelter, Clare takes a mystical journey while examining the darkness on the edge of her being. Soulful tracks such as "Home" are delivered with a voice described by RTE Radio One DJ Cathal Murray as “beautiful” and “smokey”. Many tracks from Shelter have received significant airplay in particular "Angel", "Home", and "Wild and Free".
In her approach to singing and songwriting, Clare is influenced by many of the greats including; Van Morrison, Nina Simone, Luke Kelly, Sinead O'Connor, and Billie Holiday. However, she finds life itself and the people that she meets her greatest creative inspiration. "It all begins with a feeling, the creative process happens when I'm swept along in a moment and all that exists is the song” says Clare.
