Gardai in Mayo have recently recovered €30,000 of farm machinery in an operation in the county.
Operation Retrieve which is a one of a number of garda operations that is in action across the country made the recovery in recent weeks. Chief Superintendent of the Mayo division Pat Diskin told the members of Mayo County Council about the recovery during a presentation he made to them at their February meeting this week.
Chief Superintendent Diskin also told the elected members that Gardai in Mayo are working with oil companies to help stop the theft of home heating oil from homes in the county.
“We have an initiative in the southern district when it comes to the theft of home heating oil, believe it or believe it not it is still a problem even with the drop in oil prices. In the Westport district, when oil is being delivered by the companies, they email the local community garda there telling him where they are delivering it to that day. Just so it can be kept an eye on.”
