Mayo made it two wins from two in the National Football League last weekend when they saw off Dublin by two points in Swinford Amenity Park. This win, backing up their victory over Cork the previous weekend has laid down a serious marker of intent from Frank Browne's ladies for the season ahead.
Once again it was Cora Staunton who was the star of the show for Mayo with the Carnacon ace, whose now in her 20th year of action with the Mayo ladies team bagged 1-9 of her side's total of 2-9 over the hour. Staunton hit the ground running last Sunday by bagging 1-2 inside the opening five minutes to set up Mayo's win over their guests from the east, with Grace Kelly the other Mayo player to get in on the scoring action, grabbing their second goal of the day.
But it wasn't just Mayo's attack that shone, with the likes of Sarah Tierney and Martha Carter putting in impressive showings in defence to keep Dublin out, and Yvonne Byrne also putting in a fine shift in goal.
The attention this weekend moves just south of the border with a trip to Tuam Stadium on Sunday to face a Galway side that when the teams last met in the Connacht championship pipped Mayo at the post in an enthralling encounter. Last weekend Galway had a 3-13 to 2-9 win over Monaghan in the league with Tracey Leonard bagging 2-6 for the Tribeswomen and Megan Glynn also raising the green flag for last year's beaten league finalists.
