Duke Special comes to Garbo's next Friday for Valentine's weekend

Singer songwriter, Duke Special, will be appearing live at Garbo's of Castlebar next Friday night, February 12, as part of the Finbar Hoban Presents series and just in time for Valentine’s weekend.

This will be a magical show exploring many of Duke's old favourites along with songs from his most recent and well-received album, Look out machines. Many people are aware of Duke’s platinum album Songs From The Deep Forest and hit song "Freewheel", but many will be surprised by the cultural breadth of his other work.

His creative talents have seen him involved in projects as diverse as writing the theme tune for the Irish Sesame Street to writing the music for and appearing in Deborah Warner’s critically acclaimed 2009 production of Bertolt Brecht’s Mother Courage and Her Children at London’s National Theatre. Duke has also performed with the Ulster and RTE Concert orchestras and has finished an unfinished musical by Kurt Weill based on Huckleberry Finn.

Also performing on the night is local Westport artist The Paul K Band. His style of singing is unforgettable as is his songwriting, which touches your heart strings in one track and then has you dancing with another. His companions, Raphael Dziubinski on drums and Marcin Gruszka, are both seasoned professionals from Poland, both having shared the stage with many major acts including Joe Cocker.

Opening the nights proceedings will be Castlebar singer song writer Con Murphy. Murphy grew up in Bangor, County Down, before moving to Ballinrobe in the mid 90s where he has been based ever since. He joined his first band at the age of 19 and has gigged in various band set-ups since around the west of Ireland.

Tickets for this intimate show are now on sale through Downtown Records and Hogs Heaven Bar in Castlebar. Tickets cost €13 including booking fee. For further information visit finbarhobanpresents.com
