English and Knight to be honoured by Mayo League

The Mayo Football League has announced that the recipients of the prestigious Henry Downes Service to Football Awards for 2015 are Patrick English from Achill Rovers and Gerry Knight, Ballina Town. Padraig McHale, chairman Mayo Football League, said: “I would like to congratulate Patrick English and Gerry Knight on winning this prestigious award. They are certainly worthy recipients as both have given a lifetime of service to the game and are highly respected within the county and beyond. It is fitting that an award named after such a great servant is bestowed upon two gentlemen of the game.’’

The Super League Team of the Year was also announced with champions Westport United having five players selected on the 11 with Gary Cunninghan, Joe Lawless, Dave Cameron, Danny Schaill, and David Hoban getting the nod. Manulla have four winners with Sean Morrisey, Cillian McGlade, Gary Durkan, and Conor Byrne selected. The two other winners were Danny Broderick from Ballyglass and Castlebar Celtic's Paul Fitzpatrick. The nominees for the Super League Player of the Year are Joe Lawless (Westport United ), Danny Scahill (Westport United ), and Cillian McGlade (Manulla ).

Newly crowned Preimer A Champions Glenhest Rovers lead the list for players in the Premier A Team of the Year with four players picked in the 11. The Glenhest contingent consists of Michael Davitt, David Walsh, Shane Mulchrone, and John O'Malley. Claremorris who finished in second place after last weekend's play off have three players selected with Paul Burke, Andrew Peters, and Dean Roddy all getting the nod. Partry Athletic have two players selected with Michael Seoighe and Mark Gibbons getting spots in the team, with the final two places going to Swinford's Shane Fallon and Westport United B's Mark McNally. The Permier A Player of the Year nominees are John O'Malley (Glenhest Rovers ), Andrew Peters (Claremorris ), and Michael Seoighe (Partry Athleitc ).

The Permier B Team of the year has four representatives from both Bangor Hibs and Achill Rovers. The Bangor winners are Patrick McHale, Kyle Holmes, Brian McHale, and Declan King, while the Achill selections are Anthony McHugh, Kevin Lynchehaun, Chris Western, and Terrence Dever. Ballyhaunis Town have three winners with Giles McDonagh, Kevin Byrne, and Aiden McTigue all getting the nod. The Premier B Player of the Year nominees are Brian McHale (Bangor Hibs ), Anthony McHugh (Achill Rovers ), and Aiden McTigue (Ballyhaunis Town ).

Crossmolina have four players named in the League One Team of the Year with Kevin McHugh, Martin Munnelly, Nathan Mullarkey, and Ian Gordan all selected. Ballina Town B have three players in the side with Brian Kenny, Daniel Helly, and Shane Devers all getting picked in the team. Both Ballyglass B and Kiltimagh/Knock United have two players each in the side with Sean Murtagh and Conor Groarke from Kiltimagh/Knock United and Dylan Hughes and John Walsh from Ballyglass B selected. The nominees for the League One Player of the Year are Crossmolina duo Martin Munnelly and Ian Gordon and Ballina Town B striker Shane Devers.
