Mayo Mountain Rescue finally gets a permanent home

For more than 25 years Mayo Mountain Rescue has had dreams, big dreams, of one day being able to call some place home, having a base to meet, train, store equipment, and run the team from. There have been many attempts by a lot of members over the years in securing a premises for the team, however dreams don’t happen over night.

Their persistence has now paid off and the dream has come to fruition. Mayo County Council along with Minister of State Michael Ring has secured the old FCA Barracks in Pinewoods in Westport for Mayo Mountain Rescue, so they can officially call this place home.

Mayo Mountain Rescue are pleased to announce that the base will be formally opened by Minister Ring next Friday, January 15, at 3pm. As chairman Shane McGuire said at a recent meeting: "After 25 years of service on the team I welcome you all home. The securing of this base concretes our commitment to the services we provide to the county and is a testament to all the hard work by every volunteer on the team."
