Keane happy to get things up and running

The FBD League threw in last Sunday and Mayo full back Kevin Keane had some new faces for company alongside him in Stephen Rochfords first starting 15 as Mayo manager. The Westport club man was happy to get the year off to winning start and get some miles into the legs in game conditions.

"It's the first day out you're always that bit apprehensive  to see where you are personally and as a team" he said before going on to say that, "Look, it's the time of year you get to blow off the cobwebs, it's January 3 and of course there is plenty room for improvement of course. But again it's about getting some game time into the legs and getting some of the new lads some game time to. The likes of Darren McHale and Padraig O'Hora and get them mixing in with the older lads."

Stephen Rochford gave five Mayo starters their debut last Sunday and Keane said he knew how they felt and it was about making sure they gelled into the set up a easily as possible. "It was their debuts and you wish the best of luck to them with it, we were all in their shoes once an it's about helping them fit in and gel with everyone as a team and making sure everyone pushes on and each day we get the best out of ourselves as a team and individuals."

With it being early January and only a few weeks under their belts on the training field, there's plenty for everyone to be working on over the next short while according to Keane. "We've been back training the last few weeks, we've been doing the S & C work along the way and we've had a few sessions on the pitch. But things are coming together nicely, but we've a long road to go yet. We're all working towards the one goal and we'll just be taking it one game at time as we go through the FBD on through the league and futher on."
