Businesses in Ballina will be celebrating the announcement by Smart Telecom that they now have the capability to connect and operate the MAN system in Ballina. The connection of the fibre network will mean that Ballina will be the only town in Mayo capable of offering this level of communication and will make the north Mayo capital a more attractive location for business.
It will also help existing businesses increase their level of communication and should help reduce their operational costs in the medium term, according to Sandra Cribben, CEO of Ballina Chamber.
The MAN system was installed in Ballina and Kiltimagh under a government initiative in 2002 and 2003 but it was not operational due to the high costs of connectivity and the lack of linkages into the national network.
