Westport will be engulfed with the Christmas spirit tomorrow Saturday, December 19 as The Town Hall Theatre becomes the focal point of Spraoi Na Nollag. The Town Hall team in association with Westport Chamber of Commerce will bring the new building to life with the joys of the festive season.
Themed and decorated by the very creative Elsie Higgins the space has been transformed with all the characters of Christmas. Along with the Crib taking centre stage on The Octagon the area will be centre stage for some great free entertainment throughout the day.
Santa will be catching a lift with The Westport Jarvey and has assured everyone that he will be picking him up on the edge of town and transporting him in style to arrive at the Town Hall by 1.30pm to the festive tunes provided by Westport Town Band. Santa will then meet and greet the children before inviting them into the auditorium for the first of three hourly puppet shows in the afternoon with Hansel and Gretel followed by The Three little Pigs and the classic Little Red Riding Hood. He will also join Mrs Claus for storty telling sessions between the puppet shows throughout the afternoon.
The Town Hall is quickly establishing itself as a venue for many great community projects and at 5pm will bring to the stage a fun piece of drama titled Ebony Scrooge by The Community Youth Arts Initiative. This presentation has been self scripted and produced by these young people. The fun filled day will also feature stilt walkers, jugglers, and face painters while ‘The Acoustic Yard Christmas Buskers’ will complete the festive line-up playing seasonal favourites throughout the afternoon in the foyer in aid of local charities. Seating for the shows will be on a first come first serve basis with all the events free of charge. For more info please contact the Box Office: (098 ) 28459
