Indigenous companies are supporting the economic recovery right across Ireland, according to Deloitte. The remarks were made as the firm published the shortlist today of indigenous Irish companies which will compete to be a best managed company at the annual awards ceremony in March 2016 which included Westport based company Portwest Ltd.
The shortlisted companies are drawn from 18 counties all around Ireland, from Antrim to Cork, and from Mayo to Dublin. The companies represent a variety of industries including construction, technology, media, financial services, consumer business, travel and hospitality, retail, and healthcare.
Mayo based Portwest Ltd has been shortlisted for this year’s awards. Successful companies in this year’s programme will join the Best Managed Companies network of more than 100 leading companies that have been recognised in the seven years since the programme began. One of the primary objectives of the awards programme is to showcase the success of indigenous companies and acknowledge the contribution that this sector makes to the economy. The companies featuring on the shortlist this year have total revenues of more than €2 billion, and employ some 25,000 people. This is the eighth year of the Deloitte Best Managed Companies Awards which are open to companies from all 32 counties on the island of Ireland. It is the only awards programme that considers a business’s performance from every perspective, not just financial.
Shortlisted companies work closely with coaches from Deloitte and Barclays Bank Ireland plc, as they face an in-depth review by the judging panel of every aspect of their operations. Each contender must demonstrate how his/her organisation is meeting its strategic objectives and adding value to the business, while receiving invaluable, customised feedback. The judging panel, chaired by Frank Ryan, will consider a broad range of criteria when deciding this year’s Best Managed companies - including strategy, capability, commitment, financials, and growth potential across all key functions of the business.
