Ballinrobe brings Halloween early in 2016

Ballinrobe Musical Society will be bringing Halloween early to town next year with its 2016 production The Addams Family. The hit Broadway show tells the story of the hilariously ghoulish American family with an affinity for all things macabre.

A relatively new show, The Addams Family was an instant hit on Broadway, only being outsold by Phantom of the Opera and The Lion King. It will be performed by the society next February. With music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa, the show is a side splittingly funny show that brings the audience on a roller coaster of events.

From the ghoulish ancestors, to star crossed lovers and even a love affair with the moon, this hit comedy has it all and will appeal to audiences of all ages. Chairperson Des Treacy said: “Whether it is your grandfather, or six year old child, this show has something for everyone. It has packed out halls since its debut to the amateur circuit and it’s really going to play to our strengths, with strong comedy roles and big chorus involvement.” The show opened on Broadway in April 2010 with the original cast featuring Nathan Lane as Gomez and Bebe Neuwirth as Morticia. The Broadway production closed on December 31 2011 and it is envisaged that it will hit the West End in the not too distant future.

With just one other society staging the hit show next year, Ballinrobe Musical Society is set to be the only amateur group to stage the show outside Northern Ireland. The dream team of Liam Butler (co-director ), Aoife McLafferty (co-director and choreographer ), Finola Higgins (musical director ), and John O’Shea, together with the dedicated society members will stage this production from February 14 to February 20, 2016, with early bird tickets to go on sale before this.
