One act drama festival heads to Ballina

Starting next Friday, November 6, Ballina Arts Centre will host three nights of drama, with the first Ballina One Act Drama Festival taking over the centre. This event has been developed by a local committee and is aiming to establish a wide appreciation of drama in the area. The committee looks forward to extending a traditional warm Ballina welcome to all visiting groups, festival followers, and the local public.

Things will get under way with three plays on Friday night with the Rasper Players from Gorey in Wexford performing Breathing Water by Raymond Scannell, this will be followed by Dunmore Amateur Dramatic Society's production of The Nightingale and not the Lark by Jennifer Johnston. There will be a further Wexford influence with the final performance of the opening night by the Enniscorthy Drama Group with their production of Come along the road until you stop dead by Eoghan Rua Finn.

Saturday's trio of plays will get under way with Gooseberry by Hugh Cardiff which is preformed by No Drama Theatre group from Dublin. They will be followed on stage by Buridan's Ass by SR Plant which is being performed by the Ennis Players. The night's drama will conclude with Clann Machua Drama group from Kiltimagh who will perform Lucy in the Sky by Tony Layton.

The final night's triple bill on Sunday November 8 gets going with Athlone Little Theatre group's performance of In a land much like ours by Rob Johnston. The Cloonacool Players from Sligo will follow that up with their production of What's for Pudding by David Tristam. The final performance will come from the Cliffoney Dramatic Society from Sligo with their production of The Bespoke Overcoat by Wolf Mankowitz.
