The Migrant Women – Shared Experiences exhibition is currently running in the National Museum of Country Life in Turlough House. In this multimedia exhibition visitors meet migrant women who have made their home in Mayo in recent times.
The exhibition also explores the experiences of young Irish emigrant women crossing the Atlantic to New York at the end of the 19th century. It tells the story of the Mission of Our Lady of the Rosary for the Protection of Irish Immigrant Girls. Every migrant woman’s journey is unique as well as sharing similar experiences. In this exhibition experiences of adventure and challenge and also diversity and friendship are explored.
