The elected members of the Claremorris Municipal District welcomed the first moves that are being made to reduce the speed limit on a number of roads in the centre of the town from 50kph to 30kph. The roads selected for the reduction will take in Mount Street, Main Street, James Street, d'Alton Street, The Square, Ballyhaunis Road, Railway Road, and the NCF Road.
Fine Gael councillor Tom Connolly proposed moving ahead with the next steps of the process which include giving notice of the change to An Garda Siochana, putting the change out to public consultation and obtaining the consent of the NRA to make the changes. "It's great to see progress being made on this and it's something we'll look forward to seeing coming into action when it's done." The motion was seconded by Cllr Richard Finn who said: "This is something we've been working on for the last four years and it's now coming to fruition and hopefully it will be of benefit to the local community."
