€85,000 for Games Area in Foxford — Ring

Michael Ring, Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, has announced the allocation of €85,000 for the provision of a multi-use games area (MUGA ) in Foxford.

Minister Ring said: "I am delighted to be able to announce funding of €85,000 for the provision of a new MUGA park in Foxford. This facility is badly needed in the area and will be a great addition to the town."

MUGAs have proven very beneficial in other towns in Mayo and provide opportunities for informal sports and benefit health and fitness.

Minister Ring continued: "Such a facility is not dominated by one club, in fact they can be used by a wide range of the community, not always associated with mainstream clubs. MUGAs provide a valuable recreational source for individuals and groups and their incredible versatility offers a cost effective answer to a wide variety of sporting needs. It will be a very welcome addition to the town of Foxford where there are no similar recreational facilities."

Stating he was pleased to announce the funding, Minister Ring said it was a testament to the commitment of his Department in providing such sporting facilities. Minister Michael Ring had received representations from Cllr Neil Cruise in relation to this facility for Foxford.
