Mayo dairy farmers encouraged to attend Aurivo Focus Farm event in Knockmore

Aurivo, the globally focused agri-business headquartered in the northwest of Ireland, and Teagasc will deliver a joint programme initiative aimed at enhancing output and profitability of milk production on farms in the Mayo region. The initiative entitled Focus Farm will bring together the full resources of Teagasc and Aurivo in mounting an intensive and co-ordinated advisory programme on all aspects of efficient milk production for Aurivo’s milk suppliers in the Mayo region. The initiative is being led by Dr Roberta McDonald, farm profitability programme manager with Aurivo.

Knockmore farmer Kevin McLoughlin was chosen to host the first Focus Farm event for the Mayo region on his farm in Knockmore, Ballina, on Wednesday next September 30, starting at 11am and running until 1pm. Aurvio is calling on its milk suppliers in the Mayo region to attend the free event. At the event Mayo milk suppliers will learn best practice on efficient milk production from Aurivo and Teagasc dairy experts. They will also hear how the McLoughlin family farm is currently operating, what targets they have set for the future, and how they will achieve them in relation to grassland, breeding, and financial management. Researchers and advisors from Aurivo and Teagasc will be on hand to give advice on all aspects of dairy farm management.

Speaking about the initiative, Kevin McLoughlin said: “I come from a farming family and started farming on the farm here in Knockmore nearly 30 years ago. Farming is something I enjoy; no two days are ever the same and even though you put your time in the hours pass by quickly.  I have witnessed a lot of changes in farming methods over the years, namely you now need to produce a lot more to get the same money as you would have years ago, and that is why this Aurivo initiative is so important. It is important to be up to date with the latest technology and methods to ensure that your farm is as sustainable and as profitable as possible.  Participation in the Farming Profitability Programme has helped me to achieve cost savings on my farm which has ultimately contributed to the profitability of my farm. I would advise and encourage Aurivo dairy suppliers in Mayo and elsewhere to sign up, take part in the initiative, and come down to my farm to see it in action.”

Roberta McDonald, farm profitability programme manager, Aurivo, added: “We want all our dairy suppliers in the Mayo region to be equipped with the latest knowledge and training to ensure they are operating at optimal efficiency and they are as profitable as possible. The establishment of this Aurivo Teagasc Focus Farm on Kevin McLoughlin’s farm allows us to demonstrate to our dairy suppliers in the Mayo region the application of proven research and to benchmark best practice on efficient milk production. They will have the opportunity to learn and put into place best practice to ensure their farms are as efficient and profitable as possible.”
