Mayo Ideas Week - for everyone in business

Now in its sixth year, Mayo Ideas Week has become a valuable part of the business calendar and this year runs from today, Friday September 25 to Friday October 2. This is a wonderful opportunity for Mayo based businesses of all sizes to learn, be challenged, and network effectively. Mayo Ideas Week is a series of entrepreneurship, idea generation, and business events hosted by the development and enterprise support agencies in Mayo. Most events are free of charge but require pre-registration.

Speaking at the launch in GMIT Castlebar John Magee of Mayo Local Enterprise Office (Mayo LEO ) said, "Mayo Ideas Week continues to set the agenda for businesses in Mayo. Year after year it succeeds in identifying growth areas and ideas for increasing competitiveness. Mayo LEO is delighted to be involved and recognises the importance of Mayo Ideas Week in helping Mayo entrepreneurs to look to the future with confidence." Seamus McCormack of Westbic emphasised the importance of the week for people setting up a business, saying," Mayo Ideas Week offers a tremendous opportunity for those who are even just thinking of self employment to come along and engage with those who have taken that journey."

Each event is carefully targeted at a particular sector and aims to support businesses in growing and strengthening their enterprises. The broad themes are entrepreneurship, business expansion into Northern Ireland, digital marketing, renewable energy, seafood industry development, and innovations in retail. Mayo Ideas Week 2015 also encompasses the flagship IiBC Spirit of Entrepreneurship event in GMIT and Network Ireland's National Conference. Recognising how Mayo Ideas Week always keeps a finger on the pulse of innovation, Seán O’Coisdealbha (Údarás na Gaeltachta ) said, “Mayo Ideas Week provides SMEs from the manufacturing, retail, tourism and services sectors with opportunities to learn about emerging trends and technologies.”

Full details of events will be released shortly. Most events are free but do require pre-registration as places are limited. More than 20 organisations and agencies have worked together to make this week happen. Mayo Ideas Week events consist of seminars and workshops to suit those already in business as well as those thinking of taking the plunge.
