Lisa Ryder exhibition in Castlebar Library

A beautiful exhibition of the works of local designer Lisa Ryder has opened in Castlebar Library. The exhibition, which features a number of Lisa’s leather handbags and accessories in fabric, shows her design process from initial idea to final product.

The aim of the exhibition is to introduce the viewer to the world of design. Lisa works mostly in leather. She transforms the leather using the process of print. During the exhibition the viewer will get to see her initial thought processes through the mood and colour boards. Following this they will discover how she develops and manipulates her print ideas through a selection of pages from her notebooks. The end products will then be displayed alongside the research. Ultimately the viewer gains an insight into what is involved in designing a collection.  It is hoped that aspiring designers will see how a professional studio works and that it may help shape some of their own ideas.

Lisa Ryder spent four years studying textile design in Galway Mayo Institute, Cluain Mhuire Galway. From there she specialised in printed textiles at the renowned College of Art in Glasgow. There she cut her teeth in fashion design world. After her studies she went to work in London for many years developing prints for some well-known labels.

Since setting up her studio in the west of Ireland in 2011, Lisa has strived to bring crafted luxury and no small amount of fun, vibrancy and creativity to the accessories market. She works mostly in natural fabrics like silk and leather to bring her designs to life. The exhibition aims to give the viewer in an insight into how Lisa works and how she brings her ideas to life. The exhibition will run until Friday, October 23.
