Morning and evening classes at Cúram, Claremorris
Morning and evening classes will soon commence at Cúram Family Centre. Children's book festival
Belmullet Library will be holding an event as part of the national Children's Book Festival on Tuesday October 13 at 12 noon in Aras Inis Gluaire. Mayo BirdWatch event
The Mayo branch of BirdWatch Ireland will hold a free event tomorrow, Saturday September 19. The event is called Shorebirds For Beginners, and it will meet at Westport Quay at 12 noon. Mick Hogan will be giving an informal talk followed by a walk around the Quay to view the shorebirds that use the area. This event is free and open to all, you are advised to dress for weather conditions on the day and if you have binoculars bring them along. Louisburgh Foroige Club enrolment
Parents or guardians who require more information about the club, or wish to enrol a young person into Louisburgh Foróige, are asked to attend the enrolment/information night in Louisburgh Town Hall on Tuesday September 29, between 8pm and 9.30pm. Only parents and guardians are required to attend. Young people are welcome to come along but should not attend without a parent or guardian. No registration can be completed, and no forms can be collected on the night by young people themselves. Cong Foróige
To enable Cong Foróige to continue, it is vital that there are an adequate number of leaders for the young people involved. If you are over 18 and have four to five hours to spare each month they would be delighted if you could volunteer. Croagh Patrick Heritage Trail Bat Walk
On Monday, September 21 at 7.15pm a Croagh Patrick Heritage Trail Bat Walk will take place in Brackloon Wood. The CPHT is hosting a community bat walk with the help of ecologist Jackie Hunt. There will be a cover charge of €5 and the evening will include bat identification with detector devices. Last year's Bat Walk was a great success and everyone who attended learned a lot about these fascinating mammals. All ages are welcome, just wear something warm. Brackloon Wood is situated 5km outside Westport on the Leenane Road. Turn right just past Knappagh at sign post for Owenwee. The wood is situated 250 metres along the Owenwee Road. Mayo Stroke Support Group
The Mayo Stroke Support Group in association with Croí, the West of Ireland Cardiac Foundation, will hold its next meeting on Thursday, September 24 in the Castlebar Tennis Club from 11.30am to 1pm. This support group is for adults living with the experience of stroke and their families/carers and friends. It aims to facilitate social activities, provide information, raise awareness and offer support and practical advice on living with stroke. Admission is free of charge. The multi-award winning Ballinrobe Musical Society will be holding auditions this weekend for its upcoming production of The Addams Family, which will be performed in 2016. Run, Walk and Roll in Ballina
The 25th annual Run, Walk and Roll (formerly the Terry Fox run ) in aid of cancer research, will take place on Sunday, October 11 at 12. The event will start and finish at the Ballina Athletics Track and entry for the event is only €10 per person or €15 for families. Each competitor will receive a specially designed t-shirt and a one-off medal. Anger management course
Knock Counselling Service is running its popular two-day anger management programme on Saturday October 3 and Sunday October 4. The 'Temper Your Anger' programme teaches participants how to control their anger and stress levels by using cutting-edge techniques, combined with experiential learning. Nephin Theatre Group tour Mayo
The Nephin Theatre Group will be touring Mayo in the coming weeks with its production of FR254, written by group director Martin Donohoe. They will be preforming the play in the Ballina Arts Centre on September 17 and 18, in Aras Inis Gluaire in Belmullet on October 2, and in the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on October 7.
Enable Ireland No Limits
Enable Ireland’s national fundraising and awareness week runs until this Sunday, September 20. The campaign raises vital funds to support the charity's work with more than 5,000 children and adults with disabilities in Ireland. There are two main ways to donate. You can buy a €2 or €3 kite pin, trolley disc or bracelet from any on-street volunteer, selected retailers, Enable Ireland, Enable Ireland shop, or TK Maxx shop, or text ENABLE to 50300 to donate €4.
Safe Pass training course
Mayo North East is holding a one day Safe Pass training course for people interested in working in the construction sector. Any person who engages in construction activities is bound by law to hold a valid Safe Pass card. The course is free to anyone over 16 years and who is currently unemployed. Training will take place in Aras Inis Gluaire on Friday, October 2 from 8.30am to 5.30pm. Places are limited and early booking is advised.
