Two drink driving convictions for man currently in jail

A man who is currently serving a prison sentence was convicted of two drink driving offences, which occurred within four months of each other, at Ballina District Court this week.

Des Keoghane, 18 Hollow Grove, Castlebar pleaded guilty to both offences which took place in March and July 2007. On March 11, the defendant was arrested at Newline, Castlebar, with the result of a breath sample reading 54mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath. Keoghane also had no insurance and the owner of the car said that she did not give permission for Keoghane to take the car at any stage. Four months later on July 15, Keoghane was arrested in Knockcroghery, Castlebar, for drink driving. A breath sample result showed 51mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.

The court heard how Keoghane, who has no previous road traffic convictions, is due to be released from prison on March 23. For the two drink driving convictions Judge Patrick Clyne disqualified the defendant from driving for a total of one year and sentenced him to prison for a total of one month to run concurrently with his current sentence. All other matters were taken into consideration.
