Recommendations following Mayo drowning

The Marine Casualty Investigation Board recommended this week that jet skis should be registered with number plates and all users made to undergo training because of a surge in accidents, in a report into the drowning of a 21-year-old man in Lough Mask in May 2007.

Patrick O’Haire, Clonbur, Co Galway, died after the engine of his jet ski cut out in May, 2007. Mr O’Haire, had been living for some time in rented accommodation near Tourmakeady.
