To celebrate 20 years of broadcasting from the county town, CRCfm, in association with Green Room Bookings, will host a massive free family day and artisan food festival on The Mall in Castlebar this Sunday August 23, followed by an evening of quality blues music. Johnny Gallagher and the Boxtie Band, Mississippi Sheiks and Rusty Jacks will rock the Mall from 6pm until 10pm. Castlebar has been synonymous with blues music since the days of the Castlebar Blues Festival, so huge crowds are expected as the genre returns to the big stage on The Mall.
CRCfm was the country’s first licensed community radio station and has been part of Castlebar life for two decades. To say thank you for the memories, the station is organising a fun day with loads of children's and adult events like bouncy castles, face painting, horse shoe throwing, pluck a duck, and sack races. And all afternoon some of the finest local bands and musicians will perform live from the big stage. Another success story in Castlebar is the growth of the artisan food industry and local producers will display some of the finest homemade foods all afternoon in the artisan food tent, fresh from local farms.
The party will kick off from 12 noon with local acts providing music on the festival stage all afternoon. Those performing include; John Kilkenny and Friends, Buille Beo, Sarah Deegan, Mick Sheridan, The New Social, Everyday Solution, Laura Ryder, Flat Out, Eathan Carey and Aoife Halligan, Noel Hoban, James Kilbane, Roslyn, The Phase, Derek McGowan and comedian Frank Forde. The event is being supported by Love Castlebar and Mayo County Council. CRCfm will broadcast the day’s events live from the Mall and can be heard on FM from Castlebar on 102.9fm, worldwide online at www.crcfm.ie, and on smartphones through the tunein app.
