Are you somebody who always says you need more time for yourself? Do you find the pace of life very fast and demanding at times? Most of us are the same, wanting a simpler more relaxed way of living. Many things in life can distract us from just being quiet and giving ourselves a space to rest and restore and find more meaning in our lives.
There is a new personal development course called Be... Right Here Right Now starting on Saturday January 31 in Westport. This five month course, run over five Saturdays, offers participants a space to join with others to practise slowing down, how to stop thinking and worrying so much, and how to develop a daily practice to help you become more grounded and nourished in your body and your life.
This experiential course is facilitated by Maura Horkan and Jenny Deane both with a background in psychotherapy and dance. They will use a range of creative activities including movement, music, art, group sharing and experiential exercises. It gives participant a supportive space to learn how to improve their lives in a very practical way. No previous experience is necessary, just a willingness to learn about yourself. If you are interested please contact Maura Horkan (086 823 7230 ) or Jenny Deane (085 153 2284 ).
Nourishing ideas in our daily lives
Maura and Jenny suggest:
Diet — become more conscious of what you want to eat and what foods nourish you and what drains you.
Water — drink lots and often. A handy tip is to have a full litre bottle preferably glass in your car at your workplace and near the kettle at home and refill each day.
Nature — go out as much as you can. Soak up the nourishment nature and beauty has to offer us each day.
Exercise — at least 30 minutes each day. Try to get out in the air and move the body.
Have fun — what do you love to do? What lifts your spirit? Singing, dancing, reading? Do you do it?
Rest — how do you rest? Not just to sleep but to rest and come back to balance in your body perhaps by listening to music, relaxation.
Gratitude — list five things you are grateful for today.
Inspiration — what or who inspires you at the moment?
Connection to people — stay connected to those who support life in you. Make time for people in your life.
Deal with conflict or arising issues — don’t ignore conflict or unresolved issues in your life. It takes courage to deal with them but is always so nourishing.
Daily practice — visualisation, meditations and creative activities are very helpful ways to access this divine space inside of us.
Be joyful — the interesting thing is none of the above ideas costs any money, only time and commitment.
