Castlebar Credit Union has launched a new campaign to promote more sustainable loans and personal finance arrangements in a bid to help people steer clear of moneylenders and payday loans.
The credit union is hosting a free coffee morning for families and members in the local area from 10.30am to 3pm next Tuesday (August 4 ).
At the event, people can enjoy a free cup of coffee, while credit union staff members will be on hand to answer any loan or personal finance queries they may have.
A spokesperson for Castlebar Credit Union said that for many families, summer brings with it two big financial challenges - back to school and college costs.
"The financial burden placed upon families at these times can be immense and Castlebar Credit Union wants to work with its members to better manage what can be a challenging financial time," explained the spokesperson.
"Castlebar Credit Union is particularly aware that many people may be looking at moneylender or payday loan options at this time and strongly advise their members to talk to them first before pursuing this option."
