Venus to blaze next to moon!
To celebrate this celestial spectacle Astronomy Ireland will set up powerful telescopes all across Ireland to give close up views of the conjunction of Venus and the crescent Moon. This event will take place today (Friday ) from 6pm to 8pm.
Connacht Textile Crafters – introduction to silk
Go along to meet the group or join them for the day by bringing your own knitting, crochet, felting, etc. This event will take place from 11am to 4pm tomorrow (Saturday ).
Junior workshop, exploring ceramics.
Join Lisa Fahy for this junior workshop. View the museum’s ceramic collection and make your own design. This event will take place on Thursday February 5 from 4pm to 5pm.
Talk
Join Lorraine Grimes, Department of Heritage Studies, GMIT, for a talk on sources of land-use history and their value for Irish historical ecology. This talk will take place on Friday February 6 from 3.30pm to 4.30pm.

Exploring ceramics
Household crockery often had a colourful display of bright designs painted, transferred on to the earthenware, or applied with a natural sponge. Look at the techniques and designs on these popular household objects and then decorate your own piece. This course is aimed at junior to 5th classes and will take place on Thursday February 5: 10am and 11.30am.
Poetry competition
The National Museum of Ireland-Country Life is inviting adults and upper primary and post-primary students to use their creative writing skills by composing a poem or a short story inspired by the Moylough Belt Shrine. Deadline for schools, February 27, for adults March 31. The museum is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm, and on Sundays from 2-5pm. Closed Mondays (incl Bank Holiday ).
