Group exhibition at the Sea, Sky Shore Gallery, James Street Westport, featuring work made by artists at Custom House Studios during 2008; Cecilia Bullo, Breda Burns, Nick Devaney, Pam Gray, Christina Heraty, Niall Mc Cormack, Sinead Wall, Ian Wieczorek, and Katja Wittmer. Exhibition will be opened by Cllr Margaret Adams, chairperson of Custom House Studios, on Thursday January 29 at 6pm, and continues until February 28.
The Custom House Studios is now inviting submissions for exhibitions and use of studio space for 2009 and 2010. Custom House Studios is currently constructing an extension and renovations and is set to reopen March 2009. The studio complex houses seven artists’ studios, gallery, and a print studio. These facilities are housed in a historic restored Customs House building on the Quay in Westport, on a prominent redeveloped waterfront street. The studios are located up stairs overlooking the harbour. All studios have daylight and 24 hour access. One studio is available for shorter stays. The gallery is located on street level and enjoys a high visitor numbers. There is a full programme of exhibitions.

Weekend courses in printmaking and weekend monoprint course
Custom House Studios will hold a two day monoprint workshop on Saturday February 28 and Sunday February 29. The course is designed to introduce students to a variety of monoprint techniques. These will include creating images on perspex plates and printing them using an etching press. Monoprint is a painterly process and students will complete a number of unique prints on each day. Both oil based and water based techniques will be explored. Beginning students as well as working artists are encouraged to enrol. The class will meet at 11am each day for five hours, class size is limited to six students. Custom House Studios will supply most materials. Classes will take place at the studio’s temporary accommodation at Unit 1, No 15 Westport Industrial Park, Newport Road, Westport. Participants will have the opportunity to rent studio time on completion of this course. Course fee €100. For registration call 098 28735.
