Claremorris native Lucinda Creighton is to hold the first public meeting in Mayo for her new political party, Renua Ireland, in her hometown next Tuesday (July 21 ).
The meeting takes place at 8pm in the McWilliam Hotel, Claremorris.
PRO of the newly established Mayo branch of Renua Ireland, Brian McDonald, from Toomore, Foxford, said Ms Creighton will address the meeting to introduce people in Mayo to "a new style of politics".
The party is also seeking a general election candidate from the county and support to fund its general election campaign.
"An interested person can come forward and volunteer themselves," outlined Mr McDonald. "Provided they are qualified and competent, they would then go forward to be interviewed by a board. After that, they would have to be accepted nationally by the party's members.
"We also want to hear from people who can assist us to get to where we want to be, whatever assistance that might be," added Mr McDonald.
He said the public meeting is a chance to learn more about Renua Ireland, its founding principles of "honesty, integrity and openness", and its ambitions for the future.
Ms Creighton, a former Fine Gael minister of state, launched Renua Ireland in March 2015.
Ms Creighton parted ways with Fine Gael when she voted against the party whip on the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill in July 2013.
