Construction of a new primary care centre in Westport is expected to begin within the next six to nine months.
That is according to the Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring.
Minister Ring said he contacted the HSE recently for an update on the planned centre.
"It is expected that construction of the Westport Primary Care Centre will commence in late 2015/early 2016 and the centre should be operational in early to mid 2017," he said.
The centre is being planned to provide a range of integrated primary care services, including GP practices, community mental health services, public health nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, psychology, speech and language therapy, chiropody, dietitian, and primary care counselling.
Minister Ring said it would be "a valuable asset for the people of Westport and the surrounding areas".
