Clare Island charity walk

The fifth annual Clare Island charity walk will take place tomorrow, Saturday June 27 and will consist of a 5k and 10k walk (cyclists are also welcome ). The assembly point is Roonagh Pier at 10.30am with departure at 10.45am, the ferry will depart Clare Island at 4.45pm and return to the mainland at 6pm. The cost of taking part is €50 per person or via sponsorship cards and includes bus transfers from Newport, Castlebar, and Westport. For more information call (094 ) 9029144. Keel Markets

The Keel Market will take place every Saturday from 10am to 1pm in Keel Hall in Achill, where the best of local produce will be on sale.

Kilmovee Summer School

The fifth annual Seosámh Mac Gabhann Summer School will be held in Kilmovee from June 27 to July 3. It will feature traditional Irish music, song, and dance, and classes from a number of of top tutors. For more information call Kilmovee Family Resource Centre on (094 ) 9649814.

Ballyhaunis reunion

The Ballyhaunis Community School class of 1990 will hold a reunion on Saturday July 11 in Val's Bar on Main Street, Ballyhaunis, from 8.30pm. All past pupils are invited to attend this casual reunion.

Community fete

Cong Community Fete is looking for volunteers to help out on Saturday July 11. If you have a few hours to spare and would like to help out contact Miriam on (087 ) 2795126.

Open garden

A charity open garden afternoon will take place tomorrow, June 27, in Deerpark, Belcarra, Castlebar, from 2.30pm to 6.30pm. For more information call (086 ) 3646455, all donations in aid of Belcarra National School.

Summer reading adventure

Public libraries in County Mayo, Castlebar, Ballina, Westport, Kiltimagh, Ballyhaunis, and Crossmolina are running a reading adventure for children from June 23 to the end of August. The Summer Reading Adventure is a free programme open to all children. Each child who registers for the adventure at his/her local library chooses books to read during the summer holidays. They will receive a summer reading card to record their progress along the way and a library reward stamp will be added to their reading card at the library after each book read. Children will be encouraged to continue reading throughout the adventure. The Summer Reading Adventure provides the whole family with an opportunity to explore the full range of events and facilities which are available from their library service: story time sessions, children’s activities, access to talking books and games, all the favourite movies, computers and internet access, and of course children’s books for all ages.

Beginners tennis in Claremorris

A five week tennis beginners course (beginners and returners to tennis ) in Claremorris will  start on  Wednesday July 8 and run for five weeks between 8.30pm and 9.30pm. Dog walk

Mayo Carers will be holding a dog walk on Sunday June 28 in Lough Lannagh, Castlebar, starting at 12 noon. There are free goodie bags for the first 50 dogs and prizes for the best dressed pooch. The entry fee is €5 per person or €10 for a family.

Castlebar Summer Markets

Castlebar Summer Markets will run every Friday for the duration of the summer months at the Tennis Pavillion from 9am to 2pm. Go along and browse through the large selection of food arts and crafts. Belmullet Tidy Towns

Judging for the Tidy Towns is due to begin shortly. Wednesday evening clean ups will continue and the meeting point is the Bank of Ireland at 7pm.

Stewards and volunteers needed

Ballina Salmon Festival is looking for stewards and volunteers to dress up for Mardi Gras on Saturday July 11. For more details contact the festival office on (096 ) 79814.

Killala Céilí

A céilí will be held in Killala Community Centre on Friday July 10. Matt Cunningham will perform from 10pm to 1am at the centre, where refreshments will be served to all in attendance.

Irish summer camps

Are you right there Michael?

Calling all Michaels and Michelles of the world. Come and join the fun 5km charity walk on the Castlebar Greenway and Lough Lannagh on Saturday July 18 at 5pm. Ballina Community Radio goes live

Ballina Community Radio will be broadcasting to Ballina and its environs every Saturday and Sunday starting on Saturday June 27 and ending on Sunday October 4.The community radio will broadcast on 101.9FM or listeners can go online via www.bcrfm.ie, or from a device using the TuneIn app.  Presenters Tom Mc Shane and Barry Rafter will be the first live on air at 9am with The Lie-in. The station is not-for-profit and will continue to be run completely by volunteers who all live in the community and have a passion for the town.

West African drumming summer camp in Claremorris

A West African drumming summer camp for children seven years plus will take place in the Curam Family Centre Claremorris from Monday June 29 to Thursday July 2. The classes will run from 10.30am to 12.15pm and the course costs €20. Students will learn to play traditional drumming from West Africa. For more information call (094 ) 9362096.

Charlestown AFC 50/50 draw

The winner of last week's 50/50 draw which was held in McLoughlin's Bar in Charlestown was Brian McGee who won €480, Tom Doherty was the winner of the €20 in house draw. The next draw takes place this evening in Benson's Bar, Rooskey.
