The organisers of one of the county town's most vibrant festivals, the Heart of Castlebar, say this year's event looks set to be the biggest and best yet.
The streets are set to come alive with colour, music, craft displays, heritage and street entertainment all day long and into the night too on Saturday July 4.
The popular festival is a not-to-be missed event in the local summer calendar as it showcases all that is good about Castlebar.
Also taking place over the same weekend is the Castlebar International Four Day Walks festival, which is now in its 48th year.
Both of these events will ensure that Castlebar will be alive and buzzing with exciting sights and sounds and thronged with visitors from both at home and abroad.
From 10am on Saturday, July 4, Castlebar’s Main Street will be pedestrianised and the market stalls dotted along will be open for business.
Castle Street will play host to vintage cars and all things heritage.
Make sure to check out the shopping promotions from the local retailers and pick up a bargain or two while you meander through the heart of Castlebar on what promises to be a wonderful, fun-packed family day out.
Music entertainment will be provided on Main Street on the Saturday night, with popular local acts on stage playing until late.
Live music
Sylvester Jennings, president of Castlebar Chamber of Commerce, is encouraging everyone to go along and enjoy the sights and attractions on the day.
"It is going to be a fantastic event," he said. "It looks set to be the biggest and best Heart of Castlebar yet.
"One of the great additions this year is the live music from 8pm by local bands.
"This if the first time in a number of years that live music has been included in the street festival so there should be a wonderful, lively, family friendly atmosphere throughout the town for the day and night."
If you fancy stretching your legs, then why not venture out of town on one of the organised rambles or longer walks during the Castlebar International Four Days’ Walks from July 2 to 5.
