The organisers of the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition have commended secondary schools in Mayo for their high level of participation in the competition.
As entries opened for the 2016 exhibition, the organisers revealed some 74 per cent of secondary schools in Mayo have participated in the BT Young Scientist over the past five years.
In that time, the county has claimed no fewer than 21 prizes.
Mari Cahalane, head of the BT Young Scientist, said the high rate of participation in Mayo was “encouraging”.
“I sincerely hope that Mayo schools will now set the challenge to increase their record of success for 2016,” she said.
