Knockmore v Breaffy

Both sides head into this game with a place in the last eight already secured thanks to their two wins from the first two rounds. After a shaky start against Davitts, Breaffy really found their groove last weekend with a 16 point win over Ballyhaunis. Knockmore were also impressive last weekend with a eight point win at home against Davitts, with Colm Reape scoring six points at full forward after starting the previous championship game in goal. Breaffy will feel they owe Knockmore one after the north Mayo men turned them over last year in the quarter final. A top seed draw for the last eight is a big carrot for both sides.

Ballyhaunis v Davitts

The outcome from this one is pretty simple, whoever wins will be safe in the senior championship for another year, while the other enters the relegation play-offs, a place no-one wants to spend their late summer. Ballyhaunis were put to the sword in the first half last weekend by Breaffy, but they will hope the fighting second half display they put in will carry over on Sunday. There are fine margins in championship football and Davitts could have turned over Breaffy at the death in round one, but now find themselves battling for their lives. This one should be a cracking encounter, home advantage could be a deciding factor.

Group Two
Ballina Stephenites v Ballaghaderreen
Saturday June 27 at 6.30pm
Now this should be a tasty encounter, whoever wins will join Castlebar Mitchels in the last eight, both sides have seen off the challenge of Claremorris and lost out to the 2013 county champions in their two games so far this year. Ballaghaderreen had to battle to see off the south Mayo men at home last weekend and were forced to line out without both Andy Moran and Barry Regan in that game, blunting their attack significently, but they still managed the win. Ballina were brought back down to earth by Mitchels last weekend who saw them off by six points, but manager Paul McStay will be hoping the rebuilding project he is undertaking in the north Mayo capital can stretch on to at least the last eight of the championship this year. They might be a little light in attack, but have sturdy enough defence. In this winner takes all encounter, home advantage might be a big help, but a fully fit Ballagh will take some stopping.

Claremorris v Castlebar Mitchels

On a weekend where there is plenty riding on each game this one looks like the only dead rubber of the eight games. Mitchels are through to the last eight without really impressing, but that will not bother them. They had a job to do and have done it, and will look forward to the quarter-finals with a new vigour later in the summer. As for Claremorris, it is now a matter of circling the wagons ahead of relegation play-offs, and ensuring that they stay in the top tier of senior football for next year. A good performance from the south Mayo men will be vital to have them in good stead for what is to come later.

Group Three
Ballintubber v Crossmolina Deel Rovers

Can anyone stop Ballintubber putting together back to back titles? Last weekend they lined out without their inter-county trio of Cillian and Diarmuid O'Connor and Alan Dillon and still had four points to spare over Aghamore. On Sunday they will host a Crossmolina Deel Rovers side that will still be wondering what happened to them last weekend, they led Ballinrobe by a half a dozen points and more at stages, but lost out at the death to Ballinrobe at home. Now they have to head into the lion's den knowing that a win is needed to keep matters in their own hands, no easy task. When the full time whistle is blown in Clogher on Saturday evening, they could be kicking themselves.

Ballinrobe v Aghamore

Now this is where things could get interesting, if things go as expected in the other group game a win will send Ballinrobe into the last eight, which will be a great achievement for the south Mayo men and their manager Norman O'Brien. The south Mayo men will be coming into this game on a massive high after last weekend. If Aghamore turn them over it is going to be the relegation play-off for them, unless Ballintubber really put the hurt on Crossmolina in the other game and the score difference shifts. The east Mayo men who are well capable of winning on Saturday, will be hoping that if they win there can be a five point swing in scoring difference between themselves and Crossmolina. Get the calculators out!

Group Four
Garrymore v Shrule-Glencorrib
Sunday June 28 at 4pm
This south Mayo derby will have plenty riding on it, Garrymore were very impressive in their round one win over Charlestown, but were turned over by Kiltane last time out. Last year's semi-finalists will be hoping that home advantage can help them get the win they need, and hope the rest of the chips fall in their favour in the other game to make it to the last eight. Shrule-Glencorrib still have plenty to play for a win on Sunday, combined with a Charlestown win, would see them safe and send Garrymore into the relegation play-offs, in another group where calculators could be needed at full time.

Charlestown Sarsfields v Kiltane
Sunday June 28 at 4pm
Normally two wins from your first two games would see you into the last eight, but not so in this group. Kiltane have two wins from two going into Sunday's game against the east Mayo men, but if Charlestown come out on top in this clash and Garrymore win against Shrule-Glencorrib the north Mayo men will end up in third place in the table with the other two sides making the last eight at their expense. It is all to play for in this one, a draw will do Kiltane, but Charlestown have the players to pick up the win they need here and then it is all down to how things went in the other game in the group.
