Áras Attracta assault cases adjourned

The cases against six staff members accused of assault at the Áras Attracta care facility in Swinford have been adjourned to July 10.

The six appeared before Swinford District Court, sitting in Ballina courthouse, on assault charges last Friday (June 12 ).

They are Joan Gill (62 ) Dublin Road, Swinford; Patrick McLoughlin (56 ), Mayfield, Claremorris; Christina Delaney (35 ) Seefinn, Lissatava, Hollymount; Kathleen King (56 ) Knockshanvally, Straide, Foxford; Joan Walsh (42 ) Carrowilkeen, Curry, Co Sligo; and Anna Ywunong Botsimbo (34 ), Lowpark Avenue, Charlestown.

The cases were adjourned for mention to July 10 and to fix a date for a hearing.

The six came before the court, charged with assault, after a garda investigation arising out of an RTÉ Primetime investigation documentary on care standards at Áras Attracta.

The assaults allegedly occured in November last in a unit known as Bungalow 3 at Áras Attracta, which provides residential care facilities to adults with intellectual disabilities.
