Recruitment underway for new Elverys jobs

Ten of the 40 new jobs announced this week by top sports retailer Elverys Intersport are to be based at the company's head office in Castlebar.

Recruitment for the new Mayo posts, which will be in the area of e-commerce and marketing, is already underway, a spokesperson for the company told the Mayo Advertiser yesterday (Thursday ).

The company currently employs 175 people in Mayo with 110 of those jobs based in the Elverys Intersport headquarters in Castlebar.

The jobs announcement is part of a €1.5 million investment by Elverys in its retail network and online business.

An Taoiseach Enda Kenny was in Castlebar to make the jobs announcement on Monday.

He said the jobs represented a "positive step forward" and had some high praise for the company.

"As a proud Mayo GAA fan, the Elverys logo is very familiar to me," said the Taoiseach. "It is heartening to see an indigenous Irish sports retailer as successful as Elverys Intersport. I acknowledge their commitment to the North West in particular and wish them every success in the future.”

Patrick Rowland, chief executive of Elverys Intersport said the €1.5 million investment includes "a complete refit of our Blanchardstown, Sligo and Arklow stores, the opening of a new store in St Stephen’s Green, the shop fronts of all stores and the development of a new online platform".
