Fire breaks out at McHale's in Ballinrobe

A major fire broke out at the McHale Farm Machinery facility on the outskirts of Ballinrobe on the Castlebar Road side of the town earlier this evening (Tuesday, June 2 ) at around 6pm. A number of units of the Mayo Fire Service attended the scene to deal with the blaze which was still smouldering after 8pm.

The building was evacuated as the emergency services dealt with the fire and a number of explosions were heard as the fire service dealt with the fire. Gardai were on hand at the scene diverting traffic and dealing with the large crowd of onlookers on the roadside near the scene.

The business which was set up by brothers Padraig and Martin McHale over 30 years ago specialises in farm machinery, with a particular focus on bale wrappers and employees over 250 people in the plant.
