A Wake in the West is back on the stage in Claremorris next week due to popular demand.
The Claremorris Players enjoyed a very successful run with its production of the comedy by MJ Ginnelly earlier this year. Now, the group is to perform the play in aid of Gaelscoil Uileog de Burca on Friday next, May 22, at 8.30pm in the recently renovated Claremorris Townhall Theatre.
A Wake in the West is set in a small fishing village in the west of Ireland during the 1970s. It tells the story of the life and death of Tom Healy (played by Brendan Conwell ), who was always fond of a drop.
Tom's last dying wish was that he would be cremated and his ashes scattered at sea, much to the torment of his family. Plenty of hilarity ensues at Tom's most unusual wake.
A Wake in the West is directed by Pat Doyle, who is well known for his passion for comedies set in rural Ireland, and he has brought the script alive with plenty of fun and laughter.
Gaelscoil Uileog de Burca is currently working hard to complete its outside play areas to the rear and front of the school and the last leg of fundraising is under way to achieve this. Proceeds from the A Wake in the West performance will go towards that work.
